Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
